Brief Description for Message to Congress on Hunger Relief Act

Hunger Relief: We urge the passage of the Hunger Relief Act of 1999, S. 1805/HR 3192 because it would target Food Stamp Program improvements to ensure more adequate nutrition assistance for needy legal immigrants and low-income households with children. The bill updates food stamp rules about vehicles and housing costs, allowing the program to more accurately reflect actual household needs. When hunger persists in America despite a strong economy, we need to improve the federal commitment that families will not go hungry.
