What You Can Do—Prayers and Contributions for Sudan

August 2004

Bishop Wilton Gregory, President of the USCCB, has sent a letter to all bishops urging them to consider asking Catholics in their dioceses to offer special prayers for our brothers and sisters in Sudan on the weekend of Sunday, August 22, 2004 (or another weekend) and to take up a special collection for the millions of people who are suffering as a result of the urgent humanitarian crisis in Darfur, Sudan.
This is a strictly voluntary initiative and it is left to each bishop to determine if and when to pursue it. Below are links to materials that may be helpful in pursuing this initiative.

In addition to a special collection in parishes, contributions can be made by sending a check made payable to Catholic Relief Services to CRS, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, Maryland 21203-7090. "For Work in Sudan" should be put on the check memo line. Information on CRS programs in Sudan can found at www.catholicrelief.org.
