Domestic/International Issue: FY 2011 Spending Cuts 
Protect our Poor and Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters

Call your Senators and tell them:

  • Many proposals under discussion fail the moral criteria of Catholic social teaching to advance the common good and the Constitutional requirement to promote the general welfare.
  • Poor and vulnerable people didn’t cause our budget deficit. Don’t make them pay for it.
  • As the final bill is negotiated, shared sacrifice should guide spending cuts, not disproportionate cuts in programs that serve poor persons at home or abroad.
  • Responsible leadership for the common good is needed to avert a government shutdown that would most negatively impact those with the least resources.

International Issues: Landmines
June 11—Urge President Obama and Senate to Join the Mine Ban Treaty!

Landmines laid years ago continue to kill and maim thousands of innocent civilians today in 70 countries. In May, a letter signed by 68 Senators went to President Obama encouraging him to do a comprehensive review of U.S. policy on landmines, with the aim of removing any obstacles to the U.S. signing and ratifying the Mine Ban Treaty. You can help victims of landmines and prevent future casualties by letting President Obama and your Senators know that you support the U.S. joining the Mine Ban Treaty.
